New York is supposed to be a city of dreams, but for some, it’s quite the opposite. Instead of fulfilling that lifelong ambition and succeeding in the city of lights, some fail. Where do those who fail end up? In crappy apartments, on the streets, dealing drugs, and living day to day hoping to get by. New York might be a city where dreams come true, but it’s also a city of broken dreams and secrets.

Marley Rose - Open - Eighteen

• Marley was poor, always had been, and the streets of New York had been her home her entire life. For her, getting out of the city was her dream.
• She was tired of watching people fail and wash up, ending on the streets strung out on drugs with nothing or no one.
• Marley at least was born poor, born into the streets, was used to having to sleep in shelters and beg for food, she hadn’t just failed at life and ended up there like everyone else.
• Still though, in her heart she felt like someday she could make it out, that New York could somehow turn everything around for her so that she could get a real home with a real job and real friends.
• Until then, though, she sings in Subways trying to make some cash, she’ll sing anywhere, actually, hoping that someone will finally take notice of her and give her a job, any job.
